Sower of Seeds

Pravin has recently joined more than 1500 other cotton farmers in converting to organic and Fair Trade Certified production.  Over the past two decades cotton farming in India has become a devastating occupation for thousands of farmers.  Many cotton farmers have ended their lives because of the economic stress.  For farmers like Pravin, joining the organic and fair trade organization of Agrocel has brought new prosperity to them and their communities.  They grow excellent cotton which is then processed and shipped to Assisi Textiles.

Sewer of Garments

Josmi has been a worker at Assisi Textiles for nearly five years.  Assisi was started by a group of Franciscan Sisters to provide employment opportunities to women who would normally be on the margins of the Indian economy.  Assisi makes a priority of hiring women who are speech or hearing impaired or, like Josmi, orphans.  Women gain valuable and marketable work skills and also leave the organization with a nest egg for the future.  Assisi also employs many people in the local community and provides a higher than union wage.  Assisi is a Fair Trade Certified workplace with more than 200 workers.
